Sally Agostino - Senior Pastor
I’m Southern’s senior pastor, having taken on the role in July 2020. I’m only Southern’s second senior pastor, having taken over from pastor and founder, Lindsay Tunbridge.
My husband and I had the privilege of being involved with Southern almost from its beginning, joining in 1998 (we then left to pursue another ministry from 2007 – 2016). The early days of the church were filled with enthusiasm, joy, vulnerability and freedom, and I’m pleased to say not much has changed in this regard. While the last couple of decades has seen deeper maturity in church life, there is still a refreshing sense of honesty and humility that has been a marker of Southern from the get-go. We’re not showy, but we’re welcoming and laid back and we will welcome you where you’re at.
I’ve completed theological studies at Melbourne School of Theology and Morling College, Sydney, and more recently a Diploma of Sustainability at the University of Tasmania. I’m now completely a Master of Theological Studies at Whitley.
I’m married to Raff and have three young adult children and a dog named Harvey.

Alex Zavadil - Associate Pastor
I pastorally care for our youth and young adults with a particular focus on our youth and young adults ministry leaders, who in turn care for others. I also focus on weekly teaching and preaching with our youth. I’m passionate about teaching the bible with an emphasis on how it was relevant to the original hearers and then applying it in such a way that shows how it’s relevant for our lives today. I often tend to find myself coming back to two key themes: Power and Suffering, which both come into sharp focus in the death and resurrection of Jesus. I have an engineering background and have completed postgraduate level studies in Theology (MDiv). I worked part-time for the past seven years as a high school chaplain at St Helena Secondary College whilst also working at Southern Cross. Having recently finished up in my role as a High School Chaplain I have begun lecturing in Theology and New Testament Studies at Eastern College Australia. I’m married with three beautiful kids. I enjoy running and watching comedy and sci-fi – Seinfeld, Big Bang Theory, Star Trek. If you’d like to connect, I’d love to hear from you, alex@sc.org.au.
